Good Naked (Brooklyn NY) is stoked to present Dance Dance, a two-person exhibition opening July 31 from 8-9pm at http://www.goodnakedgallery.live.

Struck by the spatial limitations of quarantine, George Skoufas set to develop an expansive environment where private expressive and absurd moments of movement and self exploration might be possible at a distance.  Dance Dance invites players to navigate this space from the privacy of their homes.  Come play. Get lost. Start over.  Take control.

A visible sun/dark circular plane loops above and around this flat landscape as light adjusts accordingly in a surrounding expansive and shifting field of saturated hues.  Space between creatures, structures, and terrain is generous.  Figures are engrossed in their own trance-like states - animated in VR and tethered to a continuous range of motion.  As we approach each dancing form we are confronted with blank stares and repetitive actions.  Unable to engage or redirect behavior, we are cast as silent observers, encouraged to partake in a mannered dérive in search of solitary moments and brief distanced encounters.  Players are passive agents in this game.  Watch.  Follow.  Reroute.  Wait.

Paintings by Panayiotis Terzis line the walls of architectural structures and with increased scales loom over Skoufas sculptures centered in each gallery.  Both Skoufas and Terzis mine historical and pop cultural language as they develop characters/narratives that reference the past and speak to the future.  Terzis’ paintings project worlds vast and familiar.  Geometric/mannered faces and bodies stand/stare stoic and removed.  Their environments are activated by color and charged with kinetic capacity.  Terzis’ static figures take up psychological space as they bump up against open landscapes and classic architectural forms.  Frames/patterns/fields of color set a beat/rhythm to the works and our eyes follow this projected soundscape as we traverse each surface.

Dance Dance works take shape in both virtual and physical reality.  George Skoufas’ sculptures are built in VR and manifest as 3D printed, hand painted objects.  Panayiotis Terzis’ paintings are developed on paper and have been installed/curated in a virtual environment designed by Skoufas for the purpose of this exhibition.

The gallery is currently open by appointment only. For more information and images, please contact info@goodnakedgallery.com.
